You know that not all foods are created equal. If you’re diabetic, there are some foods that you should avoid at all cost, as they are unhealthy and make blood sugar management difficult. Read on to find out what foods you should avoid.
Number One: Restaurant French Fries: One of those “avoid-at-all-costs” foods, French fries are full of nutritional dangers like calories and saturated fat. Oh, and by the way- trans-fat free doesn’t mean healthy. Also full of cholesterol. So brace yourself before you buy a large order of these.
AVOID: Cheeseburgers/ Hamburgers: Chock-full of calories, sodium, and unhealthy fats, hamburgers make your life harder by spiking blood sugar. So try not to eat. If you really, really want a burger, can you make it at home? Put lots of vegetables on it? Keep it cheese-free?
3. Store-bought Cookies: High fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, and trans fats aren’t ingredients in Grandma’s cookies. Buying cookies instead of making them can be a very bad choice.
Number Four: Pies and Cakes: We should know that nothing good comes from awfully sugary sweet morsels. As for pound cake, avoid at all costs. Two types of fats are nutritional offenders in pre-packaged cake mixes.
Number Five: Frozen Meals: Convenience doesn’t make food healthy. TV dinners and frozen potpies have lots of fats and sodium. All frozen meals you eat should have low amounts of fats and calories. Otherwise, just avoid.
6. Soda or soft drinks: Any actual nutrition is drowning in the high fructose corn syrup and sugar. If you’ve got to have soda, make it diet- artificial sweeteners, while not healthy, are better than regular old sugar.
We diabetics should understand that there are some foods that make it harder to manage diabetes. There are many more foods that you should avoid in the world, so be on the lookout for dangers in disguise.
